We're on a mission

...to redefine hitchhiking for the modern explorer. We're making it easier than ever to share journeys with people already heading your way. It's spontaneous, sustainable, and built on human connection. We're combining technology and trust to unlock a smarter way to travel.

Get ready for the Previous big thing.

Hitchhiking pre-dates the car.

It's one of the oldest ways to travel, and it's one of the most forgotten. We're bringing it back to the world.

Hitchr is the friend that shows you the ropes

Hitchhikers we've met along the way always tell us they've been inspired by a friend or family member. Hitchr is that helping hand, guiding you on your first ever ride.

Safety first and always

ID checks, verified profiles, and safety tips - we've got you covered.

We're building a community

Connect with fellow travellers and share your adventures with the world.

It's all about the adventure

Practical features to make hitchhiking easier, faster and more accessible.

Ditch the screen, share the ride

It's all about the real life connections and unforgettable experiences gathered along the journey.

What our community says

Got questions? We've got answers.

It’s the original ride-share. You stick your thumb out at the side of the road and wait for a kind driver to put their trust in you, and you in them, to share a part of their journey. No pre-planned routes. No hailing rides on an app. It’s just you, the open road, and a bit of serendipity.

That is a totally fair question. Pop culture and the news usually paint a pretty dark picture of hitchhiking. The truth is there are risks, just like with anything in life.

But think about it. If you walk into a coffee shop and say hi to a stranger, you'll probably have a nice chat or just get politely ignored. Very rarely does it end badly. People are generally kind and want to help. Hitchhiking is a lot like that. We always tell our users to trust their gut and use their street smarts, but you'll probably be amazed by the generosity of the people who pull over.

It sucks, but it's a reality that women have to navigate the world differently and have completely valid concerns about getting into a stranger's car. Instead of us trying to explain it, we think it's better you hear directly from women who have actually hit the road with us:

"As a woman, I thought hitchhiking wasn't an option for me. Doing the hitchhiking challenge forced me to face my fears and realise I can do it safely and have fun along the way!"

— Jess

"Such a fun day! I had no idea what hitchhiking would be like and it surpassed all my expectations! I loved getting to see new places and meet new friendly faces along the way."

— Gabbie

To be completely honest, Hitchr can't make hitchhiking 100% safe. Think of it like a bike helmet. A helmet doesn't remove all the risk of cycling, but it's a massive help if things go sideways.

Hitchr gives you tools to make the experience safer and more predictable:

  • Live Tracking: You can send a live tracking link to your friends and family so they can follow your journey in real-time. They don't even need to download the app or make an account to watch your progress.
  • Hitchspots: Our map shows you exactly where other people have successfully hitched before. You can see community reviews, spot ratings, and historical wait times so you aren't standing on the wrong corner for hours.
  • The adventure: You never know exactly where you'll end up.
  • The connections: Anonymous conversations in cars often get surprisingly deep, very quickly.
  • The side quests: You get to explore less-visited places and follow the flow of the journey.
  • It’s free: Traveling doesn't have to cost a fortune.

You actually don't. All you really need is your thumb and a willingness to put yourself out there.

But Hitchr is completely free to use and it takes a lot of the guesswork out of finding a good spot to stand. Plus, it lets you document your travels and gives your friends and family back home some peace of mind while you're out exploring.

We are Adam and Dan. We met while studying engineering at Bristol Uni. We both love exploring the world, getting out of our comfort zones, and meeting fascinating people. We built Hitchr to help other people experience that same feeling.

We are working on it right now. We are planning organized hitchhiking events built specifically for companies that want a totally unique team-building activity.

You can grab the Hitchr app for free from the App Store or Google Play Store. Just pack a bag, stretch out your thumb, and let's go.
